lovers all over the world. It all started four years ago when
Rebecca Pennington of Sonesta farms first set up a CCTV camera
in the stalls so that she could monitor the mares progress whilst
at home. Last year however Rebecca discovered another barn that
was actually sending out the video images over the Internet.
"I found myself watching this unknown mare as much as
I watched my own" so decided to give it a try. After much
research, trial and error, I managed to get it working at last,
so notified Equestrian Enthusiasts via forums and bulletin boards.
There was an immediate response. People began watching and even
helping with foal watch! I actually had people in Australia (who
are at their work desks while we sleep) volunteering to watch
the mares and phone me if a mare went into labor. It was wonderful!
More and more folks got hooked and we began having some fun. We
called ourselves the FCWs (Foal Cam Watchers) and made friends
worldwide. We drank wine while we watched and swapped stories.
It has been said that wine, in particular brings on foals!
It was evident however that there was a need for our own message boards
in order that we could communicate with foal cam watchers on
a routine basis about the progress of the mares, our chat rooms
followed shortly , which have become a very popular feature
on the site. Foal cam watchers from around the globe congregate
whilst the mares are in labor. The chat room has now become
known as the "bat cave" by fellow Cam watchers. "
Bat Signals" are given out to numerous bulletin boards
including the "Scothorse
discussion forums" who have now dedicated a forum
to the Foal Cam Watchers Club, foal Cam watchers raise the alert
by posting the bat signal when a mare goes into labor.! It's
a lot of fun and an opportunity to meet up with people all over
the world.
This year Sonesta Farms are hosting a foal cam watching contest.
The contest involves taking note of the various "strange and
unusual things" you might see in the foaling stall (could be
anything from a group of pigs instead of horses to a human streaker)
So if your interested in joining in the fun, chatting with folks
from all over and perhaps be lucky enough to watch a foal being
born online then visit

And become a Foal Cam Watcher!
